Minister of Home Affairs, Hon. Robeson Benn, today inspected the ranks of the Guyana Fire and Rescue Service during a muster exercise to ensure they are properly kitted out with the necessary protective gear and equipment.

Over 200 senior and junior ranks as well as Emergency Medical Technicians from the Central, Leonora, La Grange, Alberttown, West Ruimveldt, Campbellville, Eccles, Diamond, Melanie, Mahaica, Timehri, New Amsterdam, Anna Regina, Mahdia and Lethem fire stations braved the rainy weather to be part of today’s exercise which was conducted in all divisions.

Minister Benn said he was pleased with the turnout, which exceeded the muster exercise held earlier this year. He was also pleased that the majority of the ranks were equipped with the necessary protective gear, which will allow them to perform effectively and be safe on the job.

As the country continues to develop, it is important that the emergency services provided are of the highest standard. To this end, the Home Affairs Minister encouraged the ranks to take their positions seriously and always give their best.

Chief Fire Officer (AG), Gregory Wickham, in addressing the ranks, thanked and encouraged them to keep up the good work.

The muster exercise was timely as the Christmas season is upon us, which will undoubtedly increase traffic on the roadways and pose threats for more emergencies.

It is therefore important that the ranks of the Guyana Fire and Rescue Service are safe and equipped with the necessary tools to properly serve citizens.
