At about 21:43 hours last evening ranks from the Leonora Fire Station responded to a fire at Seaview Anna Catherina (sea dam), West Coast Demerara.
Upon arrival ranks observed that a one flat wooden and concrete building was engulfed in flames.
The building was owned by 38-year-old Ravindra Balkissoon and occupied by himself and family of three.
As a result of the fire the building and its contents were destroyed leaving four persons homeless.
The purported cause of the fire is a breakdown in electrical circuit resulting in arcing and sparking which ignited nearby combustible materials.
Also destroyed by the fire was another one flat building located at the above mentioned address also owned by Ravindra Balkissoon which was operated as a furniture workshop.
The building and its contents were destroyed due to radiated heat from the building of the origin.
Another building affected by the blaze was a two storey wooden and concrete building located at Lot 67 Seaview, Anna Catherina which is situated on the southern side of the building of origin.
The building is owned by 47-year-old Mark Jelto who along with his family of three occupies the top floor and the bottom floor is operated as a liquor restaurant.
Due to radiated heat from the building of origin nine meters of PVC guttering, nine meters of facing board and two small sash windows were severely damaged.
Additionally, a one flat wooden and concrete building located at Lot 31 Seaview, Anna Catherina which is situated on the western side of the building of origin received damage to nine meters of PVC guttering, nine meters of facing board and thirteen louvre panes as a result of radiated heat from the building of origin.
The building is owned by fifty-six year old Sherina Mohamed and occupied by herself and family of two.
One jet working from an open water source and another working from tank supply were used to extinguish the blaze.
