The Guyana Fire Service received a call at 19:06 hours last evening and was alerted to a fire at Lot 1 Norton and Chapel Streets, Lodge, Georgetown.
Water Tenders from the Central and West Ruimveldt Fire Stations were immediately dispatched to the location.
The structure involved was a two storey wooden and concrete building.
The owner and occupier of the building is unknown at this time.
As a result of the fire seven (7) meters of wooden ceiling on the southern side of the first floor was severely damaged.
The purported cause of the fire is that it was maliciously set by person(s) unknown.
One jet working from tank supply accompanied by a water relay from the water carrier were used to extinguish the fire.
