On September 2, 2022 at 9:44 hours the Guyana Fire Service responded to a fire at Lot 779 Parika Façade, East Bank Essequibo.
The structure involved was a two-storey wooden and concrete building owned by thirty-nine year old Joshua Campbell and occupied by himself and family of seven (7).
As a result of the fire the building and its contents were destroyed leaving eight (persons homeless.
Also affected by the blaze was a one flat wooden and concrete building located at Lot 781 Parika Façade, EBE which is situated on the northern side of the building of origin, owned and occupied by thirty-one year old Derrick Bhagwat, thirty-two year old Kemberly Bhagwat and their family of three (3).
Due to radiated heat from the building of origin, twenty-nine (29) louvre panes were destroyed.
The purported cause of the fire is that it was maliciously set by person(s) unknown.
One water tender and crew from the Leonora Fire Station responded to the scene and one jet working from the original tank supply aided by a light pump working from an open water source were used to extinguish the fire.
Investigations are being carried out by the Fire Prevention Department to ascertain what caused the fire.
