Minister of Home Affairs, Hon. Robeson Benn today handed over three new water bowsers to the Guyana Fire Service.
The appliances were purchased by the Government of Guyana at a total cost of $46.2 million dollars.
The water bowsers each have a capacity of 1800 gallons and will be used to support the main assets (water tenders) when there is a fire.
Minister Benn noted that there has been a recent increase in malicious setting of fires and said that the government is taking the necessary steps to mitigate and address these and other issues in Georgetown.
Some of these measures include the replacement and installation of hydrants in the city as well as new housing areas and the procurement of more appliances to aid firefighting and fire prevention.
Meanwhile, Chief Fire Officer (ag) Gregory Wickham said he is very pleased with the donation and expressed gratitude to the government and Ministry of Home Affairs.
He said the appliances will assist in having water readily available in the event of a fire and informed that they will be placed at Bartica, Eccles and Georgetown.
