The Guyana Fire Service received a call at 11:44 hrs yesterday and was alerted to a fire at Lot 160 Rase Avenue Golden Grove, East Bank Demerara.
Water Tenders #95, #107, #115 and Water Carrier #14 from the Central Fire Station, Diamond Fire Station and West Ruimveldt Fire Station were immediately dispatched to the location.
Upon arrival firefighters observed that the structure involved was a two storey wooden and concrete building which was engulfed in flames.
The building was owned by Lenox Reid and Bibi Reid who reside in the United States of America.
The building housed several businesses, namely BRT Paint Store, L&M Reid and Sons Hardware Store and T&S Reid Sale Industry.
As a result of the fire the building and its contents were destroyed.
Also affected by the blaze was a two storey wooden and concrete building located at Lot 189 Rase Avenue, Golden Grove, East Bank Demerara.
The building is also owned by Lenox Reid and Bibi Reid and it was occupied by Rommel Reid and family of three.
Due to radiated heat from the building of origin which subsequently ignited, the entire top floor of the building was damaged and the bottom floor sustained water damage.
Investigations are being conducted by the Fire Prevention Department to ascertain what caused the fire.
The Guyana Fire Service continues to encourage citizens to equip their homes with smoke detectors and fire extinguishers and to adhere to safety measures in order to protect their home and loved ones from fire emergencies.
