The theme for Emergency Medical Services Week 2022 was “Rising to the Challenge,” which took place from May 16 to 21.
The Guyana Fire and Rescue Service organized a brief ceremony today to honor our Emergency Medical Technicians as part of the commemoration.
Lunch was provided for our essential frontline personnel, as well as tokens of appreciation.
During brief remarks, the Minister of Home Affairs, Hon. Robeson Benn, thanked the EMTs for the work they have been doing and encouraged them to continue to enhance their training and propel themselves to produce a better life for future generations while working toward the main goal of being “One Guyana”.
The Minister also expressed gratitude to the facilitators from Vanderbilt University for providing advanced training for our EMTs, and expressed his hope that the trainees will continue their education to become doctors and other medical professionals, thereby improving the overall performance of Guyana’s Emergency Medical Services.
Chief Fire Officer (ag), Gregory Wickham, also thanked the EMTs and stated he “looks forward to continuous outstanding service from our Emergency Medical Technicians.”
Also present at the ceremony were Permanent Secretary, Ms. Mae Toussaint Jr. Thomas, Dr. Shannon Langston, Dr. Jarred Millard and Nurse Andrea Fletcher of the Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Station Officer with responsibility for Emergency Medical Services, Azumah Roberts, Finance Officer, Patrick Daniels, Chief Emergency Medical Technician, Nandaram Dat, EMS Officer, Bhumika Sookdeo and Deonarine who Mr. Ramdeo Kumar who donated a quantity of medical supplies to be used by the Emergency Medical Technicians.
