The Guyana Fire Service is currently investigating the circumstances that led to a fire at the St. George’s High School earlier today.
At 13:25 hours the GFS received a call and was alerted to a fire at the St. George’s High School which is located at RR7P+3QQ, Georgetown.
Six water tenders from the Central, Alberttown, Campbellville and West Ruimveldt Fire Stations were immediately dispatched to the location.
Upon arrival firefighters observed that the building was engulfed in flames and began firefighting operations to extinguish the fire.
According to preliminary investigations, there were at least two teachers and a number of pupils in the building when the fire started, but everyone was able to safely evacuate before the blaze worsened.
As a result of the fire the St. George’s High School was destroyed, with only a few items being saved.
Investigations are being carried out by the Fire Prevention Department to ascertain what caused the fire.
